Chris Beer is the Portfolio Manager for the Precious Metals and Global Resource funds and advises domestic, U.S. and international portfolio managers on global resource trends and companies. Chris works closely with other portfolio managers on analyzing current and prospective resource holdings. Chris is a member of the Canadian and Global Equities Committee and is the coordinator for resource research and allocation.
Chris brings more than fifteen years experience in researching and analyzing the natural resource sector with a focus on precious metals and mining companies. His combination of investment industry experience and four years experience as a field geologist provide a strong complementary perspective to the analysis of resource-based companies.
Chris began his investment career in 1993 as an associate analyst with Levesque Beaubien Geoffrion Inc., doing fundamental research on precious metal, basic material and utility stocks. In 1996, Chris joined RBC Dominion Securities Inc. as a mining analyst responsible for the analysis and recommendation of small-to-intermediate capitalization mining companies to institutional and retail investors. In 2000, Chris joined RBC Asset Management Inc. as the global equity resource analyst responsible for the analysis and recommendation of global energy and basic material companies. During his career, Chris also held the position of basic material and healthcare analyst for MacDougall MacDougall Mactier Inc.
Chris graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Science in geology. He also earned a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in finance from the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1996.
